I found this video and was extremely inspired by Kevin Carroll’s story and overall approach to creativity and life in general. I agree with a lot of the theories and philosophies that he speaks about in this lecture.
His story inspired me to reach out to him, in hopes that he would be willing to share some words of encouragement and a few trinkets of knowledge that he gained throughout his career in the creative industry. To my surprise he actually contacted me and agreed to a one on one phone discussion. I was very shocked and excited.
He was very up-lifting and inspirational throughout the whole conversation and was open to share what ever knowledge he could pertaining to the questions I asked. After our conversation I can attest to three things. 1) Kevin Carroll is a VERY humble guy, 2) He genuinely wants to see others succeed and 3) he is extremely passionate about creativity. This is a GREAT video to watch for the individual needing to be inspired. PRESS PLAY!

Muhammad Ali is and has always been one of my biggest inspirational figures… Not only for his boxing prowess, but also for his stance on politics, social injustice, and religion. This is a rare video of Ali giving a brief lecture about his philosophy on religion and the deciding factors as to why he chose to practice the Muslim faith over Christianity. What he says makes a lot of sense. Very interesting.

Here is a quick type treatment I designed highlighting my thoughts on life and living in general. We currently live in a time where it is common place to want more and want it now. With the rise of social media and the aggressive nature of advertisers, it is nearly impossible to run from the influence to consume.
LESS is MORE my friends. The typography on this piece focuses on the word “simple”. I started with the font Orator Standard (Medium) and began stripping away all portions of the letterforms that I didn’t need with the exception of the “S”. The “S” stands alone while the other letterforms have been consolidated and now function as a ligature.
While this creates a cleverly unified mark, this solution also creates the problem of difficult readability. This problem actually helps to drive the message. The message being that when you let go of unnecessary possessions and situations and consolidate the things in your life that are most important to how you function you will undoubtedly be able to focus with more clarity, be more efficient and ALOT happier.
The Display type frames the word “LIFE” which symbolizes the notion that once you let go of the distractions and “Simplify” your life, you can then focus on living life. :.)
What are your thoughts???
A month ago a group of talented graphic designers converged on an opportunity to take on a fun project by entering in the 2012 DNC Poster Contest. Myself and another designer (Baxton B.) were selected as finalists. I am extremely humbled and appreciative to have been chosen as a finalist.
The piece I submitted (“Tools on Blue”) features a collage of different tools strategically placed to form the DNC logo. This makes for a really nice graphic while communicating the “Building a Better Future” message at the same time. In addition, this is a great piece for interaction because the viewer sees the DNC logo from a distance, but as they approach, they begin to see the story or message unfold.
The “building a better future” tag-line is wrapped neatly with a stylized bow that helps draw attention to reiterate the message.
Please vote André and Baxton as your top two poster designs. I love and really value your feedback so feel free to leave your thoughts and reactions on what you think of the design. Thank you for your support.

I’ve seen a lot of people on tumblr and was very resistant to the idea of creating a tumblr blog. But, because I want to do more blogging (or thinking out loud as I like to put it) and don’t have much time to create a blog from scratch, here I am! And I must say that I am VERY excited to be here. Please come by and say hello and check out some of my design works. I LOVE feedback (good or bad). So let’s talk!
